El Grito de Poetas is a collective of diverse Latinos representing the Caribbean, Central and South America, dedicated to educating though creative forms of art. Based in NYC, culturally entrenched within the urban experience; they are firmly committed to spreading knowledge of their various identities, preserving traditions, bringing awareness to socio cultural issues, mentoring and empowering the youth, and contributing an overall transaction of wisdom and experience through the neo-modern traditional style of spoken word. Teaching artists, writers, performing poets and emcees, always affecting today’s people by connecting with them through community and growth.
Pt.1 Ft_ Chilo, a human being of Puerto Rican and Irish descent, who teaches History in NYC. He has been writing, recording and performing Hip Hop music for almost twenty years and is a founding member of “G.O.S.”, “21POETZ”, “Dr. Loco” and the award winning “El Grito de Poetas,” the premiere all Latino spoken word poetry collective in NYC. A seasoned lyricist and passionate performer, Chilo has performed at hundreds of landmark venues and Universities across the country off of his love for the written word. He has recorded 5 Hip Hop albums and is currently promoting his latest, entitled “Natural Evolution”. He is the curator of the monthly “Invite Only Open Mic Series” at the True Sound Lounge in the Bronx. He has been featured in the contemporary Latino poetry anthology “Me No Habla With Acento” and is currently set to produce his first spoken word poetry book “Closed Doors and Opened Windows”. A cultured and spiritual educator, Chilo enjoys being a part of unique projects that offer a multitude of beneficial services to the communities of today.
